COUPLAND TIME MACHINE
Trunk or Treat – 2018
The annual Trunk or Treat event was held on Saturday, October 27.
Choo-Choo Fest – 2018
Choo Choo Fest is the major annual fundraiser for the Coupland Civic Organization (CCO). This year it was held on Sunday, October 14 at St. Peter’s Church in Coupland. The traditional delicious barbecue dinner, including potato salad, beans, and barbecue sauce was provided by Abbey Road, owner of the Old Coupland Inn. As always, the cole slaw was provided by Becky Sutton. The bake sale offered desserts by the serving and/or whole.
The silent auction featured artwork, arts and crafts, collectibles, antiques, and many more interesting items. Choo Choo Fest T-shirts were available in new colors. And since it couldn’t be a Choo Choo Fest without a Choo Choo, the Kiddie Express train offered free rides to kiddies and their parents, too.
We also welcomed back Sylvia Summers, former CCO President who presided over the first event in 2008 and is credited with coming up with the name Choo Choo Fest.
September 2018 Meeting of the CCO
On Monday, September 24, the CCO had a program on the Coupland School presented by Superintendent Tammy Brinkman and Language Arts Teacher Kathy Hill. They provided many interesting insights on the school and the students. We also welcomed Carlos Salinas, candidate for County Commissioner Pct. 4, and his wife Vicki.
General Meetings of the Civic Organization are open to the public and are held on the last Monday of each month, except for Monday holidays.
National Night Out – 2018
National Night Out was on August 7 at the Depot and was possibly the best attended so far. Several candidates for political offices attended and we had presentations by Sheriff’s Deputy Matt Kreidel and Jared Cummings, Chief of the Coupland Volunteer Fire Department.
The Coupland Civic Organization hosted a hot dog supper with all the trimmings plus homemade cookies.
Annual Golf Tournament – 2018
The CCO held its first-ever, first annual golf tournament on May 19, 2018, at beautiful Mustang Creek Golf Course in Taylor. It was a successful fundraiser and the proceeds will be used toward maintaining our historic Coupland Depot and restoring the caboose. Thanks to board member Jonathan Jones for organizing the tournament. Things went well for a first-time endeavor, and planning has already started for next year’s tournament set for May 18, 2019. Here are a few images from the event:
